1.000.000 Einwohner, 180 verschiedene Nationen, 860 Sportvereine und in diesem Jahr sogar 2 Weltmeisterschaften! Doch blanke Zahlen können den wahren Charakter der Sportstadt Köln nicht wiedergeben. Neben der FIFA Fußballweltmeisterschaft freut sich die Stadt Köln auch darauf, die besten Nachwuchsspieler der Welt des Flag Footballs im August zu beherbergen.

Mit der Austragung der Flag Football WM, die bereits in Toronto, Berlin, Mexico City, Tokyo, Vancouver und Beijing stattfand, reiht sich nun auch Köln in diesen erlesenen Bund der größten Metropolen der Welt ein. Kulturell steht Köln diesen Städten in nichts nach. Findet man doch über 40 Museen, darunter das Deutsche Sport- und Olympiamuseum oder das weltweit einmalige Schokoladenmuseum, in den traditions- und geschichtsträchtigen Straßen der Stadt. Doch nichts prägt das Gesicht der Stadt so sehr wie die allgegenwärtige Präsenz des Kölner Wahrzeichens, der Kölner Dom.

Besonders hervorzuheben ist die Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln die als weltweit führende Institution im Bereich der Sportwissenschaften und Dopinganalyse gilt.

Die Liste der Besonderheiten könnte man noch lange fortführen, doch sollte sich jeder Besucher der Stadt ein eigenes Bild dieser herzlichen und toleranten Stadt machen.

Having recently welcomed the players and fans of the 2006 FIFA soccer World Cup, Cologne looks forward to welcoming the participants of the NFL Flag Football World Championship in August 2006.

By hosting this very special championship Cologne joins other famous cities and former hosts Berlin, Mexico City, Tokyo, Vancouver and Beijing.

Walking through the historical streets of Cologne you can find more than 40 museums of every kind. Among them are the German sport and Olympic museum or the world famous unique chocolate museum. But nothing represents the city more than its special landmark: the “Kölner Dom”. One of the most famous cathedrals in the world.

The citizens of Cologne love sport! You can find clubs playing at the highest national or even international level in every kind of sport. The most famous are American Football (Cologne Centurions), soccer, basketball, ice hockey and handball. But there is not only sport to watch. You can exercise in a lot of parks or other outdoor facilities all around the city.

More than sport that keeps the city young and vibrant. Some of the best Universities in the country can be found in Cologne, especially the German Sport University, which is known as the worldwide leading institution for sports science and doping analysis and you will find many international students there.
