Chaopraya Wittayakom ready to defend Championship

NewThaiAfter dominating the qualifying matches in early June, Chaopraya Wittayakom displayed its flag football supremacy again in NFL Flag Football Thailand Championship 2007 defeating Barnna Nayokpittyakorn School with the score 33-12.

It was the rematch for both teams after they met in the final of the qualifying match three weeks ago. Even with only six months learning this new sport, Barnna Nayokpittyakorn School from Nakornnayok, entered its final twice in a row. In early June, they were outclassed by the reigning World Championship, Chaopraya Wittayakom. However, with the three week preparation, they were able to get closer with 6-7 score during the first series.

Chaopraya Wittayakom showed their game experience by throwing long balls and stop Barnna Nayokpittyakorn on couple of key drives.

“We are glad to represent our country again and excited by the idea that we have the opportunity to defend the World Title” Udom Jaithatkul who guided the team to the World Championship in Cologne last year said. “All of our players are determined and will do their best in New Orleans”

It is the fourth time that Chaopraya Wittayakom has won NFL Flag Football Thailand Championship. The event was sponsored by the National Football League, the US professional American Football organization, and managed by Flag Football and American Football Association, the local registered association.

Chaopraya won their first NFL Flag Football World Championship in Cologne in 2006 after Bangmod Wittaya, also from Thailand, won the first for Thailand in Beijing a year earlier.

In August 2007, it will be the first time that the NFL Flag Football World Championship will be held in the US as the game will be hosted by New Orleans Saints.
