Austria

Austria1Austrian coach Jürgen Gattenbauer introduces his team, the Wenzgasse Vikings from Vienna, who last played in the FFWC in Vancouver in 2004. The Vikings are the reigning European School champions.

Felix Wasshuber - QB,CB - he somehow resembles the career of an NFL backup QB. He was the starter in our U13 EC Team which finished third in Newcastle, England, in 2006. Then he moved to the U15 team and basically was the third QB on the team and would have played as starter in our second school team. During the spring practices he moved into the second spot and but I was still uncertain whether to actually put him in our first team as a backup because I thought that he would get more playing time as a starter in team 2. Two weeks before the Austrian finals my starting QB broke his pinky on his throwing hand and Felix became the starter by default and never looked back. He lead us to the Austrian Championship and played well in the European School Final as well. He is the unquestioned starter at Quarterback

Roman Toth - he was the starting QB and is now our backup. But he developed himself into a very good receiver and is one of our top defenders playing the MLB spot, called Monkey on our team. (a name that still sticks after we had originally named our defense positions after animals.

Sebastian Wolf - our top receiver and safety on the field. All he wants is the ball, and he usually gets it. Has already played some tackle football and is a strong body on the field.

Jakob Hackel - almost as good as Sebastian and if teams focus too much on Sebastian he is usually wide open. And he is our other safety.

Alexander Marolt (RB, CB) - one of our youngsters on the team. He is still an under 13 player but left may older boys behind. Follows in the footsteps of his brother Sebastian who was part of the Vancouver team and became EFAF U15 Euroflag champion in 2005 in Spain.

Benedikt Wolf (WR, CB) - the youngster in our team, so still U13, and another family relation - the younger brother of Sebastian, but almost as tough.

Susu Alkier (RB, CB) - the only girl in our team - she only started playing flag football three months ago, and although it is a steep learning curve for her, she can play.
